We are deeply disappointed in the lack of transparency and leadership in the drafting and presentation of Senate Bill 2, which addresses the disastrous Senate Bill 242 that passed during the 2019 legislative session. We understand that during a special session things move quickly, but the hearing for this bill began before the bill text was made available to the public, and while the Assembly was hearing another bill related to policing.During the 2019 legislative session and during the interim, PLAN and our coalition partners and families directly impacted by police violence expressed our concerns, and asked for dialogue. We have been ignored or just refused. This is not how you develop policy.To be clear: PLAN opposes Senate Bill 2 because Senate Bill 242 needs to be fully repealed, not tweaked. Period. SB242 and the Nevada Peace Officers Bill of Rights protects criminal cops.
